Event Details
Description
A conceptual artist with elements of post-modernism, surrealism, analytical cubism, pop art, and references to the old masters, Samuel Bak employs imagery that creates puzzling parallels to our history and experience. Although influenced by his experiences and evoking dark memories as a child surviving the Holocaust, Bak hasn’t painted direct scenes of mass death. Symbolism, metaphor, allegory, and devices such as substitution subtly reveal sober messages of the Holocaust, the aftermath of war, the burden of memory, and the importance of remembering the past.
